The Chinese mainland box office totaled 1.5 billion yuan (213 million U.S. dollars) October 7-13. October 7, the last day of the National Day holiday, contributed 550 million yuan (78 million U.S. dollars) in a single day, according to Chinese box office data app Dengta.

A week after China's National Day, the "three giants" of the National Day film market: "The Captain," "My People, My Country," and "The Climbers", still top the box office. New crime film "A Witness out of the Blue" made 100 million yuan in its first two days, ranking fourth this week.

'The Captain' continues to dominate the box office

Single-day box office champion, "The Captain,"  has been in that position for nine days since hitting the big screen on October 5. Still, the equally-strong "My People, My Country", remains second in the single-day box office rankings; The multi-director, anthology film earned more than 500 million yuan at this week's box office. 

According to Dengta, it is clear is that the box office trends of the two films are very similar. By Saturday, Chinese Hong Kong's "A Witness out of the Blue" pushed "The Climbers" to the fourth place in single-day earnings.

Director Ang Lee and Will Smith's "Gemini Man," a film with the unique pioneering technology, is scheduled to open in Chinese mainland theaters on Friday, October 18.

Next week, Disney's "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" is also set to hit China's market.
