Shanghai launches plan to make parts of Baoshan an eco-friendly 'smart city'

Looks like Baoshan’s getting an upgrade. While the northern district, which in the past was one of the city's most polluted, may seem like practically a foreign country to some Shanghai city slickers, a massive chunk of its industrial area, Nanda, is getting a modern makeover. SHINE reports that Nanda will boast 50 billion RMB’s worth of eco-friendly and high-tech new office buildings, parks, residential areas and, of course, shopping malls.

Though the district is fairly far out from the city centre, public transport shouldn’t be too much of an issue, as Nanda Lu Station of future Line 15 will be in the area. The Nanda area will be able to accommodate over 100,000 new residents, with completion of the construction project slated for 2022.

Seems like you'll finally have a reason to visit Baoshan after all.
