The US has moved through to the semifinals of the Women’s soccer World Cup following a 2-1 win against France in Friday’s quarterfinal in Paris.

The Americans took an early lead when Megan Rapinoe slotted the ball into the French net in the 5th minute of the game and that’s how the score remained at halftime.

In the first half, both teams had the same number of shots on goal, but France dominated time of possession.

Rapinoe scored again in the 64th minute to put the US into a commanding position.

The French poured on the pressure after that and were finally rewarded with a goal by Wendie Renard in the 81st minute to cut the US lead in half, however, they couldn’t add to it for the remainder of the match and again exited the tournament at the quarterfinal stage.

The win by the US will see them play England in the semifinals Tuesday in Lyon.
