LYON (Xinhua) -- The United States retained FIFA Women's World Cup title in France 2019, beating the Netherlands 2-0 in the final here on Sunday.

It is the fourth World Cup crown for the United States, the first-ever team to successfully defend the title in the quadrennial soccer gala.

In today's final, co-captain Megan Rapinoe's 61st-minute penalty goal opened the scoring and midfielder Rose Lavelle's searing individual effort doubled USA lead in 69th minute.
