A new ad is causing confusion about the film Home Alone. Has it been remade, starring an adult Macaulay Culkin?
No, there is no remake. Rather, Google has hired Macaulay Culkin to reprise his most famous role, Kevin, to promote its automated home line of products.
In the ad, Culkin reproduces the iconic shots, like jumping on the bed, eating a bowl of ice-cream, and trying to order a pizza without seeing the delivery man. But in the ads, he achieves these goals in a modern way. He relies on Google to automatically open the house’s front door lock. He does not have to worry about how to pay the delivery man, because he paid online.
Home Alone first showed on screens in 1990 and it is a classic Christmas movie even to this day. The box office take of Home Alone was 476.7 million by the end of 2011. The views of the new Google ad broke 12 million within 24 hours.
Culkin, who played cute Kevin, took a break from acting in 1994 because of family problems. In 2013, he co-founded a rock band, the Pizza Underground. The most heartbreaking experience for his fans is that he was detained for possession of illegal drugs. He battled drug and alcohol addiction for a long time. Now, his fans are delighted to see Culkin in a healthy condition in the ad.

In the original movie, Joe Pesci played Harry Lime, one of two bumbling burglars. He stopped acting for a period of time, to pay more attention to his musical career. He returned to acting in 2006. In 2017, he acted in The Irishman, which will be released through Netflix in 2019.

Daniel Jacob Stern played the other burglar, Marvin Murchins, which perhaps is his best known role in his acting career. He also is a director and a screenwriter. He directed several episodes of two TV series, The Wonder Years and Manhattan. He also created and wrote the CBS TV show Danny. Neither Stern nor Pesci appear in the ad.
