Moscow, founded in 1147, is the capital of Russia. It is also the largest city in the country and in Europe, and one of the political and business centers in the world.

Besides the must-see Red Square, Saint Basil’s Cathedral and the Kremlin, Moscow is home to the world renowned Bolshoi Theatre, Tretyakov Gallery and Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts that houses a large collection of paintings and sculptures.

The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre is one of the greatest theatres in the country and in the world. It was established in 1776 and located in the center of Moscow on Theatre Square.

The Moscow Metro is one of the world’s most beautiful underground networks and a prominent city attraction. Some of its stations are on the UNESCO cultural heritage list.

Moscow Metro is the first and the largest underground railway system in the Soviet Union and the fifth longest metro system in the world. Many stations of the Moscow Metro feature monuments of architecture.

Half of Moscow is green space. Every year the city holds a Million Trees campaign, thanks to which about 2 million new trees and shrubs have been planted in Moscow since the fall of 2013.

Hotel Ukraina, officially the Radisson Royal Hotel, is a five-star hotel that takes up the Stalin-era skyscraper on Kutuzovsky Prospekt on a bend of the Moskva River. It is opposite to the House of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Now the capital has 120 of protected natural areas spanning over 17,500 hectares  in total. With a population of 12.4 million people, it is the most populated city of those entirely located in Europe. 

Friendship of the Peoples fountain, the main fountain and one of the symbols of the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh), was created in 1954 for the opening of exhibition center.
