A man from Yunnan Province won a 20.95 million yuan lottery but failed to claim it because he lost his ticket, reports online video service Pear Video.

It is the second largest amount of unclaimed prizes in China's history.

The man, who was not identified, bought two tickets for 10 yuan and bet 4 times on one of them which hit the jackpot, according to the owner of the store that sold the winning ticket.

The winner missed the deadline on Monday to redeem his ticket.

A statement from the official WeChat account of Yunnan Welfare Lottery said if the winner never shows up, the money would go into China's lottery welfare fund which the government will use for public welfare causes such as poverty alleviation and support of the elderly and the vulnerable.

The Welfare Lottery is one of two lotteries on the Chinese mainland, with the other being China Sports Lottery.

The man won the Double Color Ball which is one of the Welfare Lottery's most popular games.
