The Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism recently held an event in Beijing to promote its rich tourism resources.

The department announced the focus of 2019's Yunnan Culture and Tourism Year is to promote the province's exotic ethnic cultures, build its brand image as a destination and provide tourists with greater convenience.

They also revealed data about mobile app Youyunnan, which literally means "traveling in Yunnan", analyze trends in the tourism market. Launched in October 2018, the app will soon unveil an English version for overseas visitors.

Data shows many of the app users were born in the 1980s and 1990s, are well-educated and enjoy nightlife in Yunnan province. The development of high-speed trains and highways in recent years has brought more tourists to the province.

With the app, travelers can locate the nearest toilet in a scenic area and read the availability of the number of stalls and urinals, air quality and temperature. The information is also shown on a screen at the gate of these "wisdom toilets".
