BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.56 percent to end at 3,340.78 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.78 percent lower at 13,691.04 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indexes declined slightly to 827.6 billion yuan (about 122.66 billion U.S. dollars) from 834.94 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Tourism companies led the losses, with shares of Tempus Group Co., Ltd. falling 8.27 percent to 6.32 yuan apiece.
Bucking the downward trend, sectors in textile manufacturing and wind power notched gains, with yarn producer Bros Eastern Co., Ltd. rising by the daily 10-percent limit to close at 4.49 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.74 percent to close at 2,764.24 points.
