Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.39 percent to 3,085.04 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.41 percent lower at 11,134.47 points.

The turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at about 849.3 billion yuan (about 119.2 billion U.S. dollars), down from 978.7 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to supply and marketing cooperatives and the sodium-ion battery sector led the gains, while some stocks in education, hotel and tourism suffered losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.1 percent to close at 2,387.3 points Monday.
