Chinese shares close lower Friday

BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.58 percent to 3,097.24 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index dipped 0.37 percent to close at 11,180.43 points.
The turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at about 978.7 billion yuan (about 137.67 billion U.S. dollars), up from 913.12 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to education, medical services, and the pharmaceutical business led the gains, while some stocks in IT application and innovation suffered heavy losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, inched up 0.16 percent to close at 2,389.76 points Friday.
