BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.87 percent, at 2,926.9 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.6 percent higher at 10,940.79 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 790.07 billion yuan (about 113 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 785.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Gainers outnumbered losers 1,210 to 218 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,864 to 264 in Shenzhen.
Stocks in the computer services sector led the gains, with shares of the Shanghai-based technology counseling firm Winning Health Technology Group Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 20.96 yuan.
Telecommunication services companies also notched solid gains, as shares of the online game developer Talkweb Information System Co., Ltd. hiking by the daily limit of 10 percent to 12.79 yuan apiece.
Bucking the upward trend, shares in the catering sector led the losses, with the household chain China Quanjude Group Co., Ltd. edging down 0.11 percent to 9.17 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.8 percent to close at 2,085.28 points.
