A total of 1.29 billion people in China had access to the Internet through a mobile phone as of last month, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Friday.
According to a report by The Paper, the data shows that China's three major telecommunications service providers had a total of 1.29 billion users in April, up 7.3 percent on last year, and 1.21 billion of them had access to a 4G network.
In the first four months of this year, 34.9 billion gigabytes of data were used by China's mobile broadband users, up 125.8 percent compared to the same time last year.
Over the same period, China's telecommunications industry had cumulative revenues of 446.3 billion yuan (about $64.6 billion), up 0.7 percent on last year.
