Four self-driving buses began trial operation on Dec 2 in Shenzhen, a developd high-tech city of South China’s Guangdong Province, according to Shenzhen News.

The four smart buses can run without a driver owing to Alphaba, a self-devloped smart driving bus transit system which enables emergency stop, passing around roadblocks, avoiding pedestrians and changing lanes, said the report.

The smart bus system based on artificial intelligence, automatic control and vision computing can accurately change lanes.

Ridar censors, cameras and GPS antennas are set to guarantee safe driving.

Another shining point of the smart buses is the new pay method. A QR code and bus cards issued by Shenzhen and other cities including Beijing, Chongqing, Nanjing, Suzhou and Guangzhou, are acceptable to pay for a smart bus tour in Shenzhen. Passengers are free to take during the trial period.

In case of any emergency, the buses are equipped with a driver who can manually change the vehicle from self-driving to manual mode.
