The Chinese mainland reported 2,388 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, including 2,328 domestically transmitted and 60 imported, data from the National Health Commission showed on Thursday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 20,888 asymptomatic infections on Wednesday, including 20,804 locally transmitted and 84 imported, the National Health Commission said.

There were 17,172 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Wednesday, with 43 in critical condition.

Wednesday also saw 561 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission added.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 279,431 and the death toll stood at 5,226.
