NANJING, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- An explosion occurred at a chemical plant in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, the local fire department said.

Rescuers have been sent to the scene and no casualties have been reported.
