At least five people were killed in a road accident in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, police said Tuesday.
"The accident occurred when a car in which the victims were travelling collided head-on with a state-run bus in the state's Krishnagiri district," a senior police official said.
All five occupants of the car died on the spot, he said, adding that their bodies have been sent to a local government hospital for an autopsy.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said. "A manhunt has been launched to track down the bus driver who fled the spot after the collision," he added.
India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
