China International Airlines or Air China said it will schedule extra flights from southwest China's Chongqing Province to Taiwan for 5 consecutive days during the Spring Festival travel rush, Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.
The airline's Chongqing branch said one additional flight, a wide-bodied aircraft, will be added every day to the original schedule, so that two flights will operate from Chongqing to Taiwan from Feb. 11 to Feb. 15, 2018. It's necessary to add extra flights amid the high demand of Taiwanese businessmen in the mainland and to provide them a smooth homecoming experience for the Spring Festival, the branch's official said.
Aside from Air China, Shenzhen Airlines and Xiamen Airlines also announced additional flights between the mainland and Taiwan. Netizens in Taiwan applauded the mainland airlines' consideration and said they are the ones who offer "true love" to the Taiwanese.
Earlier this year, the island's aviation authority denied the request of 176 additional cross-Straits flights operated by China Eastern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines that were scheduled to cope with the travel demand.
