Alibaba smashes Double 11 e-shopping carnival record with sales worth $25.3bln

Beijing (People's Daily app) - Double 11 or Singles' Day e-shopping carnival ended at the stroke of midnight on November 11. And, e-retailer major Alibaba has created another sales record this year. According to Daniel Zhang, chief executive officer of Alibaba, the internet giant clocked record sales worth ¥168.2 bln ( $25.3 bln). Shanghai's Mercedes-Benz Arena hosted a live Singles' Day gala on November 10, a day before the annual discount shopping festival. Sales figures were displayed on a giant screen close to the Arena when shopping began at 12 am on November 11.
