China's three major operators, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom have obtained permission to do pilot construction of the 5G network in cities including Beijing, the three operators said Wednesday.

China Unicom said that it has already changed 2G users' cell phones and reduced the frequency band, a specific range of frequencies in the radio frequency spectrum, of 2G base stations. The aim, it said, is to offer more qualified and faster network service.

2G can be used to read books, 3G to view pictures, and 4G to watch videos. 5G will revolutionize the internet with its super fast speed. Experts said that with 5G, the network speed of cell phones will be at least 10 times faster, and the network will bring a fresh experience for  AR and VR applications.

An action plan over Beijing’s big data and cloud computing says that the city will pioneer the commercial use of the 5G network in the city’s sub-center, new airports in Beijing, in the venues of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, etc.

Beijing has already conducted 5G tests in its Huairou District.
