Bangkok (People's Daily)- China has set up a new consular office in Siem Reap, the largest tourist destination of Cambodia, said Xiong Bo, Chinese ambassador to Cambodia on Sunday.

The office, offers services in six provinces in Northwestern Cambodia including Siem Reap, Battambang, Kampong Thom, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, and Preah Vihear, is one of the major achievements after Chinese President Xi's state visit to Cambodia last year.

“It reflects peace and stability, and more importantly, it will promote bilateral exchange and cooperation between Cambodia and China, as well as marching toward new stage of comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation”, said Khim Bun Song, governor of Siem Reap Province, at the opening ceremony.

Liu Zhijie, director of consular office, pointed out that the office would enhance exchange and cooperation between the two countries, as well as offer necessary assistance for Chinese citizens in the consular zone.

Siem Reap received 725,277 Chinese visitors in the past ten months, making China the largest source of inbound tourists. So far, Siem Reap has established friendly ties with 22 Chinese provinces and cities.
