5G networks are to be prepared for commercialization in the second half of 2019, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced during its Outlook and Policy Orientation of 5G Network on Digital China Summit on Tuesday.

The demonstrational 5G devices will meet the public as early as the second half of 2019, meanwhile, the 5G network will meet the elementary requirements for commercialization, Wen Ku, director of the department of information and communication development of MIIT, highlighted.

Wen introduced several major tasks to be finished in 2019, including the completion of the criteria on 5G networks.

Beijing has built 30 transmission sites in the outskirts of the Huairou District, which constitutes the world’s largest outdoor 5G network test field, according to Wen.
