New York (People’s Daily) – A Chinese envoy to the United Nations  on Tuesday reiterated the role of bilateral talk and in addressing the issue of Rakhine State and asked for patience of the international community.

The issue of Rakhine state in Myanmar has a complex historical, ethnic and religious background, thus it needs patience for proper solution and should be properly handled by Myanmar and Bangladesh through dialogue and negotiation, said Ma Zhaoxu, China's permanent representative to the UN.

China attached great importance to the situation in Rakhine State and has offered humanitarian aid to the displaced people in the region.

As a visit to Myanmar and Bangladesh in November last year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposed a three-phase solution to settle the issue, which includes urgent and long-term plans and was endorsed by both Myanmar and Bangladesh.

The first two phases of ceasefire and seeking solution through dialogue have been largely achieved and the final stage which aims at adopting anti-poverty measures would take more time, Ma said.

China hopes that both Myanmar and Bangladesh will continue to implement the relevant measures and that the Security Council should play a constructive role in this regard, said Ma.
