World Sleep Day in 2018 falls on Wednesday with the theme, “Join the Sleep World, Preserve Your Rhythm to Enjoy Life,” proposed by the World Sleep Society, an international organization calling on people’s awareness to the importance of sleep.

26 percent of adults in the world suffer from sleep disorders, according to a report released by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) on Sunday.

The result was provided by a survey conducted by Philips in February. More than 15,000 people from 13 countries including China, the US and UK were asked about their thoughts on sleep.

More than half of the respondents said they didn’t have a good sleep over the past three months because of pressures of work and other external factors.

The sleep issue has recently become more serious. More than 300 million Chinese people suffer from sleep disorders and the number is rising. More strikingly, over 60 percent of young Chinese people suffer from sleep disorders.

“Sleep disorders were often common for middle-aged or senior people, but now the age of those who suffer from sleep problems is dropping,” said Guo Xiheng, director of Respiratory Medicine Department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital.
