China's Ministry of Commerce, on Sunday, welcomed the US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's plan to visit Beijing for further talks amid trade tensions.

"China has received information that the US hopes to come to Beijing to discuss economic and trade issues. China welcomes this," a short statement on the commerce ministry's website reads.

Mnuchin Saturday said at a press conference during the spring meeting of World Bank and IMF that he is considering a visit to China for further talks.

He said, he had a meeting with China's central bank's governor Yi Gang, but they didn't focus on the trade tensions between China and the US. He also expressed cautious optimism over efforts to resolve trade tensions.
