Shi Cuiying, 76, pushing her grandson to school on a wheelchair in Daizhu village of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The school is 3 kilometres away, yet Shi Cuiying 76, who is hunched and suffers from high blood pressure, has to push her grandson Jiang Haowen on a wheelchair to undertake 4 round trips between school and home every day. Shi has been doing this for 4 years since the child was 5. They live in Daizhu village of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Haowen was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was 2. His father, Jiang Xiaobing, spent all his money on treatment that could not cure the kid.

Jiang and Shi agreed that the father would earn money as a migrant worker to run the family while the granny looks after the child and takes him to school.

Before the wheel chair was gifted to the the child by the Disabled Person's Federation, Shi used to ferry Jiang to school on bicycle. 

Despite the arduous task, Shi is quite optimistic. “I treat my grandson as my son. As long as I have the strength to wheel him, I would go on doing it”, she said. “Isn’t family the most important thing for us? Isn’t persistence the most valuable virtue?”
