China established a Ministry of Veterans Affairs on Monday in Beijing.

The decision to establish the ministry was made at the 1st Session of the 13th National People’s Congress in March to protect the rights and interests of military personnel and their dependents, improve military personnel service, and build a sound military personnel service system with a centralized management and well-defined duties and functions, as well as to preserve the nobility and respect of the profession in China.

The ministry is tasked with formulating and implementing policies on veterans management and services, be responsible for transferring and resettling veterans, demobilized soldiers and retired military officials.
