JAKARTA (People’s Daily) - The Indonesian government on Monday formed a special task force in its capital amid a crackdown on online misinformation.
During a launch event, an Indonesian police official said the team will be responsible for eradicating “fake news” and making those who spread it accountable.
With a population of 133 million Internet users, Indonesia has suffered an increasing problem of online false reports in recent years.
Earlier this month, Indonesian law enforcement arrested 14 members of a racial Islamist cyber network, accusing them of spreading false reports, hate speech and other crimes.
