Chinese premier proposes 'China-Japan-S. Korea+X' cooperation mode


Chinese Premier Li Keqiang proposes a new cooperation mode called China-Japan-South Korea plus X.

He made the proposal at a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

He says the three Asian giants should capitalize on their comparative advantages in equipment, technology, capital and engineering to open up a fourth- or multi-party market to promote the rapid development of Asian countries.


China invited to send delegation to US for trade talks


US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin invited Chinese Vice Premier Liu He to the US for further economic and trade negotiations, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement Wednesday.

China accepted the invitation, the statement said. 

The US delegation led by Mnuchin visited China on May 3 and 4.

The two sides agreed to set up a work mechanism to maintain close communication.

They said that a sound and stable China-US trade relationship is crucial for both, and are committed to resolving economic and trade issues through dialogue and consultations.


17 dead in new Ebola outbreak in DR Congo


The Democratic Republic of Congo suffers a new Ebola outbreak. The country’s health ministry calls it a public health emergency with international impact.

At least 17 people have died. It’s the country’s 9th known Ebola outbreak since 1976.


China launches new Earth observation satellite for environmental monitoring


China launches new Earth observation satellite for environmental monitoring. The launch of Gaofen-5, a hyper-spectral imaging satellite, is part of the country’s high-resolution Earth observation project.

The satellite can be used for comprehensive environmental monitoring.

It was developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and has a designed life of eight years.


Pompeo's visit to DPRK to nail down framework for Trump-Kim meeting


US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo returns to North Korea to iron out a framework for the possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

But he remains ambiguous on the specific date and location of the Trump-Kim meeting.

Last week, Trump said that the date and location had been set.


5 killed in China colliery gas explosion


A methane gas explosion in China’s Hunan Province kills five.

The explosion ripped through a coal mine.

Officials from the provincial work safety authority and county government are at the site to coordinate rescue efforts.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.


China to promote cultural and creative products overseas


And China will promote its cultural and creative products at  an overseas cultural event series.

The series will focus on promoting products related to cultural relics and museums, intangible cultural heritage, animation and digital technology.
