Ottawa (People’s Daily) – As the Chinese Lunar New Year began yesterday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and on behalf of his family, released a statement, wishing everyone celebrating Spring Festival success, peace, and happiness throughout the Year of the Dog.
"Gong Xi Fa Cai! Gong Hey Fat Choy! Gong Xi! Gong Xi!” he said in his statement.
“The Chinese Lunar New Year is a time to look forward to the year ahead with hope and optimism. Families and loved ones will come together to give thanks for the blessings of the past year, exchange gifts, and welcome the arrival of the Year of the Dog – a symbol of honesty, hard work, and determination,” read Trudeau’s statement.
Trudeau recognized the contributions of Chinese-Canadians that have made the country “stronger, more inclusive, and more prosperous.”
Going forward into 2018, he said, “Let's continue to celebrate everything that unites us, and the diversity that makes us strong.”
Yesterday, Chinese communities said goodbye to the Year of the Rooster and said hello to the Year of the Dog.
