Washington (People's Daily) -- US President Donald Trump may extend economic sanction relief to Iran after Tehran’s recent progress on amending US legislation on the 2015 nuclear accord, according to an Associated Press (AP) report on Wednesday.

But the possible relief extension could bring newer sanctions targeted at Iranians and businesses.

Sanction deadline is Friday, and failure to meet the scheduled due date would automatically jeopardize the Obama-era nuclear agreement.

Sources close to the issue willing to comment anonymously expressed concerns that Trump could still reject the recommendation from US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary James Mattis, and security adviser H.R. McMaster.
