Zhongshan Station, built in 1989, is China's biggest Antarctic research station. It consists of more than 10 buildings for researchers to work and live. Due to the extreme cold, vegetables are more precious than meat and seafood there. A special greenhouse has been built at the station to plant cucumbers and lettuce so researchers can eat fresh vegetables in winter.
