A recent online survey covering the positive and negative aspects of Spring Festival spread among Chinese netizens in the run-up to the holiday season.
Middle-aged adults enjoyed the holiday because it brought families and friends together. Younger respondents, such as college students and those entering the job force for the first time said red envelopes, sometimes referred to as “lucky money” given to them by older relatives, was their favorite feature.
Opinions vary when it comes to the holiday’s negative aspects. Some feel that older relatives who cannot help but pry into the personal lives of younger family members is a dreaded inconvenience although prevalent among Chinese families.
As for New Year’s wishes, the survey’s majority yearned for a healthy life filled with happiness, while others put wealth at the top of their lists.
