During the 2018 Oscar nominations, short video clips from the nominated films were shown, revealing the latest in cinematic science and technology.

So what makes a movie great? Without pause, many would say it’s the actors. 

However, the short videos served a purpose, as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences reminded filmgoers there is much more to making movies than an actor’s performance.  

Those who utilize the utmost precision in working with sound, light, makeup, costume and set design, all vital parts of the filmmaking process, should not go unnoticed.
