Beijing 2022 stands out, remarkably displays solidarity, friendship and peace

At the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, athletes proudly waved their nation's flags, showcased hard-won medals, danced in circles, and took photos with friends to catch the precious memory in the host country.

Ending on February 20, Beijing 2022 glittered with togetherness, peace and hope amid the shadow of the pandemic and political differences. China has fulfilled its commitment of delivering a streamlined, safe and splendid Olympics to the world.

Over 16 days, international society witnessed an avalanche of tear-jerking and heart-warming moments which transcended national boundaries, striking a chord with audiences around the globe.

Japanese figure skating superstar Yuzuru Hanyu received an outpouring of support on Chinese social media after he failed to conquer the quadruple axel. "It was the most supportive event of my life so far," said the skater, who noted that he felt happy even if not getting rewarded this time.

China's four-time Olympian Xu Mengtao finally realized her dream of winning an Olympic gold in the women's aerials and burst into tears. Xu received a long warm hug from American freestyle skier Ashley Caldwell, who said she was so proud of Xu.

Bronze medalist Ilia Burov of the Russian Olympic Committee embraced Oleksandr Abramenko of Ukraine, who won the silver, in the awarding ceremony of the men's aerials freestyle skiing. With smiles on their faces, the two shared the unforgettable moments.

Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, delivered unreserved praise for the Beijing Winter Olympics and lauded it as "truly exceptional" when addressing at the closing ceremony.

There is never a lack of superb Olympians or legends, no less than thrilling athletic scenes in the Olympic Games. But what makes Beijing 2022 unforgettable is that the Games not only brought warmth to people of all countries caught in the chilly winter of the pandemic, but also injected the strength of peace and unity into the volatile world.

As the snowflake-shaped cauldron for the Olympic flame fulfilled its mission, Beijing Winter Olympic Games have sent the message of hope and unity to the world. China stands ready to continue working hand in hand with the international community to promote Olympic spirit and create a brighter future for mankind together.
