“The two countries (China and India) have something in common, other than competition, also going on at the same time. This complex relationship needs to be handled with wisdom.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an informal two-day meeting in Wuhan, as part of the build up to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Qingdao in June.

An increase in the already frequent high-level communication has been seen since the Doklam standoff last year.

During his appearance on CGTN’s Dialogue, Liu Youfa, Mumbai's former Chinese Consul-General, said that the trade friction between China and the US had sounded a wakeup call for India.

“India's economy is picking-up speed, actually it has a higher percentage growth rate projected this year over China," he continued.

“India is in favor of keeping the current international economic order. That actually benefited China’s rise, and India is following behind very closely.

“At this moment, the disruptive (sic) of a US-led 'America first' will not do well for India.

“We need to understand, India, in its own position, is feeling all the insecurities regarding how to deliver its own growth within a so called 'fearful international environment' that China used to talk so much about."

With the participation of Russia and Pakistan, a lot is expected of the coming SCO Summit in Qingdao.
