Editor's note: Even though the World Health Organization named the novel coronavirus pneumonia COVID-19, some US politicians continue to link the virus with "Wuhan" or "China" . As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rise globally, shouldn't we end such biased attacks and make a joint effort to fight the pandemic? Readers share their opinions.

To say the virus originated from China is definitely unfair. The virus originated from wild animals, and a coronavirus attack can happen anywhere where there is wildlife and animal-to-people interaction. China has been struck first with COVID-19, just as the MERS-Cov struck first in the Middle East and the swine flu in North America. This is a natural event that occurs throughout history and will happen again. However, the unfortunate thing is there are political quarters which try to score political points amidst human suffering. That is one of the most inhumane things any human could do.

With all of the criticism and blaming China has endured from outsiders during this historical crisis, China has proven itself to be leading the world in how to handle a national and international crisis.

I am an American. I am proud to be an American. But, America has failed in containing and controlling this virus. The lack of test kits, masks and the unwillingness of people to self-quarantine and isolate themselves has been disturbing. On the other hand, the willingness of the Chinese people to fully cooperate with authorities in order to do what is best for the good of the public has been amazing.

Every time I walk out of my community and scan my QR code and get my temperature checked, I breathe a sigh of relief knowing China is taking care of its people, and me, in a way that is extraordinary.

I applaud not only the efforts of the government, but all of the actions of the Chinese people. Not only that, I applaud the compliance of all of the people here in China in coming together and working together to defeat this unseen enemy.

This world is being plagued by a virus. But some countries guess what could have been done instead of positive action and activities. Shame on them. I like the classical actor’s lines from American movie “do something”, which is powerful and energetic . Sounds like nobody can destroy you if you are strong enough in bad situations. But a movie is a movie. We have to face the music. By sending a lot of help, like experts to other countries troubled by the virus and financial support, , China is a good example for the world and demonstrates deeply the saying “ a friend in need is friend indeed”. That’s what a great country should do for the world. Let’s get beyond someone who is narrow-minded and lacks responsibility.

It is irresponsible to say China is the origin of the coronavirus. Every conclusion should be based on scientific and professional views. Now is not the time to discussing which country or region is the origin. How to contain the spread of the virus is the important thing at this moment.

The origin of virus should be based on scientific investigation. No nation should be allowed to spread the rumors it was China that triggered the epidemic. It is a special time and each country should stay together to cope with it. China has set an good example to the world, we do our best to curb the spread of the pandemic.

We all have to work together to defeat this virus. It knows no boundaries, race, religion or creed. The world should learn from China, but it seems we aren’t able to do that because everyone is too tied up in their individual battles rather than unifying, sharing, planning and learning from others’ experiences. It’s sad to see so many people losing their lives when it may not be necessary if we all pulled together.

What does it matter where the virus came from if humans can't learn from their mistakes? How many warnings have been neglected these past 50 years about what we are doing to our planet and our wildlife and our own health? COVID-19 will eventually kill thousands of people around the world before a cure can be discovered, then we can all pat each other on the back and continue to neglect the environment and the ecosystem until the next more severe virus comes in the future to do even more damage. How many chances do countries and world leaders want before drastic action about our future is taken?
