On July 6, the US kick-started a trade war by imposing an additional 25 percent in tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese products, triggering an immediate retaliation from China. US President Donald Trump also threatened to impose tariffs on another $500 billion in Chinese products, pushing threats to the extreme. However, this will not likely stop China from fighting back.

The US move will give it a permanent, infamous record in international trade. Washington violated the rules of the World Trade Organization by starting a trade war, which will damage the global economy beyond Washington's wildest imagination. It is fair to say that the US has become a "sinner" of world trade.

Washington's trade hegemony is doomed to fail. Washington believes it will win. However, nobody wins in a trade war. Now that the US has turned a deaf ear to reason, only a rout on the "battlefield" will return it to sanity.

In an economically globalized 21st century, all countries, especially China and the US, are deeply intertwined. The US will not stay intact when it cuts out China. Washington has trampled on two red lines: multilateralism and China's right to develop. Therefore, the world will support China's defensive stance and fight-back.

Obviously, Washington has seriously underestimated the power of China's and the world's countermeasures.

Now that the US has initiated a "war" against China, China will have to face it and repulse it in every "battle." China is capable of succeeding, given its firm resolve and spirit. US aggressiveness may scare a few weak-minded, but US repression has sparked fierce indignation in Chinese society, and disillusioned and united the Chinese people.

This antagonism involves national interests and dignity. China is a nation gifted with unlimited wisdom, and the Chinese ability in technological innovation is as high as that of other nations. As long as society is motivated and people unite under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the trade war will turn out to be nothing.

China must stay calm in the face of the maniac US, and pursue effective countermeasures by meticulously choosing targets rather than mere revenge. The US government and society are divided on the trade war. China must determine the true perpetrators of the trade war and come up with specific countermeasures to create the greatest damage.

China should unite all possible friends. It is a situation involving the US against the world, and more countries will stand up against the US. China must be prepared for the worst but strive for the best possible result. Short-term agony will lead to long-term benefits.

The external environment has never been idyllic for China throughout history, and will never be. US warmongering will certainly happen this time around. China has grown stronger in dealing with the outside world and has accumulated experience. It will become an even stronger and more confident country finishing this battle.
