China and the Maldives established diplomatic ties on October 14, 1972. As their 53rd anniversary approaches, People's Daily visited the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Beijing to interview the ambassador, Fazeel Najeeb. In this interview, Najeeb commends China-Maldives cooperation in areas such as the Belt and Road Initiative, infrastructure and tourism.
