In this episode of People's Daily Talk, we are pleased to be joined by Mr. Martin Liu, associate dean and professor of marketing and innovation at the Nottingham University Business School China, who is also the dean of the Zhejiang Branding Academy.
He thinks the Belt and Road Initiative is one of the ways for us to connect to the international market in a much deeper way. 'So, how do we brand ourselves? How do we make people perceive us as a country that generates high quality products? That is the challenge. Not the challenge of the manufacturing process itself'.
'This is a national branding issue. It could be a stereotype, and how do we change it remains something everybody needs to work on'.
He suggests that manufacturers start changing their mindset and focus on quality. 'The products that come out of China would be of good quality, but at a reasonable price, and that could be a valuable proposition that we could bring to the world.'
From his observation, the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is going to center around building trust and consultations, which is very close to our Chinese culture of promoting harmony and collaboration.
