In this episode of People's Daily Talk, we are very pleased to be joined by Wen Jia, partner and president of public affairs of the Alibaba Group. She’s also in charge of the Hupanmodou Charity Foundation, which was set up by thirteen female partners of the Alibaba group.
Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba has taken many actions to assist people amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Wen believes that it’s the responsibility of Alibaba to fight against the virus globally. “If we don’t make society better, we cannot get better. That’s why we join this fight with the world,” she said.
Medical supplies were in short supply during the early part of the pandemic outbreak, but Alibaba delivered about 130 million units of medical equipment and protection gear for free through its global logistics green channel. “We made mission impossible possible,” Wen noted. “In the past several months, the whole Alibaba team worked together to fight against the epidemic. There are many memorable moments, stories and people. We felt anxious, touched and admiration almost every day. Most of our logistics colleagues, they worked almost 24/7 in the office. Because they know time means life. I’m deeply touched by the sacrifice they made.”
In the post-pandemic era, Alibaba aims to improve trade rules and establish digital trade infrastructure. It also aims to help developing countries, SMEs and young entrepreneurs benefit from globalization. “We have a better understanding of the value of international cooperation through the pandemic. Alibaba has a tradition of focusing on international cooperation,” Wen said.
She also shared Alibaba’s goal for 2036. “By 2036, we want to serve 2 billion consumers and create 100 million jobs, and help 10 million SMEs to be profitable. We want to truly realize the vision of Alibaba: to make it easy to do business anywhere.”
