On the evening of September 20, the hospital's ICU took in Xiao Yu, 8, who had very severe fulminant myocarditis.
After a series of symptomatic treatments, the child's condition improved. However, his heart rate was still unstable throughout the night and into the morning. The doctor judged that Xiao needed to be treated with ECMO technology. (web photos)
The hospital contacted the Children's Hospital of Fudan University to transfer its ECMO equipment. However, at 2 pm, Xiao’s condition deteriorated sharply and it would take several hours for the ECMO team to arrive.
In order to ensure the quality of chest compression, the medical department recruited nearly 30 hospital medical staff to carry out continuous chest compressions. When the ECMO equipment arrived five hours later, the whole medical team had completed over 30,000 chest compressions.
Several medical staff take a break after doing intensive chest compressions.
Finally, Xiao returned to a stable condition. Xiao said on his social media account, "I am Xiao Yu. Love you all! Thanks for your strength! I really want to thank the people who rescued me, the doctors and the nurses who are lovely and positive!" (Compiled by Wang Xiangyu)
