Located in the northern part of the Loess Plateau and on the southern edge of the Mauwusu Desert, the Neolithic city of Shimao spans four million square meters and has a history of about 4,000 years.
Over the past decade, excavators have uncovered a stone city with luxurious artifacts made from jade, bone and clay, stone carvings, painted murals and other precious cultural relics.
The ruins are believed to be the largest prehistoric city ruins found in China to date.
