  Photo: CFPBosten Lake is located in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in northwest Chinas Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is the regions largest lake and one of the largest inland freshwater lakes in the country. Recently, the wetland of Bosten Lake has welcomed large flocks of waterfowl, and displayed beautiful scenery full of animals, lakes and reeds. The picturesque area is the result of decades of environmental protection by the local government.

The nature reserve introduced 94 milu deer in 1993, 1994 and 2002 from the Beijing Nanhaizi Milu Park and the population has grown to 2,000-strong today.
