The world’s only giant thangka painting of pandas is on exhibit at the Sichuan Provincial Library in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China’s Sichuan Province. The painting was created by over forty thangka masters in Sichuan’s Aba Autonomous Prefecture for a year. (Photos: Chinanews.com; compiled by Huang Yuzhang)
The whole painting is 142 meters long and 1.6 meters high. More than 600 pandas are painted on the scroll, which represents the volume of pandas kept in captivity across the globe as of December 2019. As the world’s largest thangka scroll featuring pandas, the painting showcases both the glamor of pandas as China’s national treasure and the local culture of Aba Autonomous Prefecture.
