  Global artists gather at Beijing’s Today Art Museum

  As the exhibit “HereThere” closed at Today Art Museum over weekend, works of artists and designers from over 20 countries finished their two-week gathering in Beijing. The exhibition showcased emerging global talents’ explorations on negotiating with commercial shackles and experimenting cutting-edge techniques and concepts. The works covered over 30 disciplines, including animation, fashion, fine art, interactive design, and illustration, displaying the young artists’ interest in making their own voices heard amongst the world’s urgent issues, such as environmental protection and humanitarian crisis. Korean-American artist Jiyun Sung showed off her work which navigated her multiple identities before a panel discussion on the future of applied art. She expressed her excitement about bringing her work to Beijing for the first time.The personal experience of living in today’s China was a popular theme in the exhibition. Yvette Wong’s Growing Up in China was one example of visual art representation. The artists also featured expression of common emotions. Sara Ehrlichova’s work, L’amour, delved into the various dimensions of love by imaginatively presenting daily objects. Japanese artist Obara Noriko’s installation Lotus Land, combined traditional aesthetic with digital display of city maps, was among the favorites of the visitors.
