Medics who rushed to Wuhan to provide assistance from south China's Fujian province fulfilled their task and returned home safely on Tuesday.

After learning that the medical team was going home, Zhang Dingyu, the president of Wuhan hospital, who also suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), insisted on going to the airport to see medical staff off even though he just finished a long meeting.

They hugged each other with tears in their eyes.

"You’re our family, our friends, thank you all! You helped us in this time of crisis. You are the heroes who saved the earth. All of you are supermen!" said Zhang Dingyu.

During the outbreak of COVID-19, medics from Fujian province rushed to the front line in Wuhan and spent 58 days to fight the virus. There has been no infection among the medical staff and no death among the patients.

Zhang has also spent days and nights battling on the front lines of the epidemic. He once said:“ I have to run faster to get more patients' lives back from the hands of the virus.”
