Poyang Lake in East China’s Jiangxi Province is an important winter habitat for oriental stork, a migratory bird species under first-class national protection. The transmission tower in this area has become a favored nesting site for the birds.

In February this year, local grid staff found a pair of storks and a nest of eggs on one of the towers. They observed the stork family from a distance until they grew up and flew away from Poyang Lake.

Now, as winter came, a large number of migratory birds are flying back to Poyang Lake. The oriental stork likes to settle down on their original nests.

To ensure the power supply and protect the bird, grid workers have installed anti-bird dropping equipment on the transmission facilities and strengthened the nest.
