According to the inspector, the blue-green algae first appeared on July 28, 2018, and occupied almost 10 percent.

Hefei government officials issued an alert on the rapidly growing algae.

The project coordinator said that all related departments are working non-stop to collect the algae, averaging 20,000 tons of salvaged algae per day.
