With the improvement of water quality in Yichang, the protected Changjiang cowfish, dubbed the "giant panda of the water", has increased in population every year.

These Changjiang cowfish, which frequently leap out of the water, were photographed on the Miaozui River downstream from the Gezhouba Dam in Yichang city.
